Dr. Brunner is working as a regular external consultant to the UA Athletics Department, providing careful assessments of their NCAA Division I student athletes from a wide array of sports. He is honored to be working alongside a colleague, Dr. Amy Athey, Director of Clinical and Sport Psychology Services at Arizona. The University of Arizona is recognized as having an innovative psychological service team, representing a broader trend whereby behavioral science is increasingly being used to maximize the performance of athletes. Recent Presentations:
–Dr Brunner was an invited panel member at the local Arizona Family and Conciliation Court (AFCC) Lunch and Learn at the Pima County Justice Court Building, contributing to the topic of ways that attorneys and judges could most effectively work with the psychological community to address family law issues such as court ordered psychological evaluations.
Growing Legal and Expert Witness facet of practice
— Dr. Brunner continues to increasingly serve as a forensic psychologist who works with Court systems and attorneys to precisely assess and provide recommendations regarding issues such as legal decision-making/parenting time, general mental health evaluations, and parenting fitness evaluations. In doing so, Dr. Brunner continues to draw from his three core areas of expertise: evidence-based treatment, child and adolescent psychology, and providing assessment using cutting edge behavioral science tools.
–Dr. Brunner was also an invited panel member at the Tucson Advanced Family Law CLE Program, sponsored by the Arizona Bar Association, at the Westin La Paloma on November 20, 2015. Topics included: Role of psychological evaluations in family law, preparing clients to undergo a custody evaluation, and forensic therapy/treatment client tips for attorneys. Dr. Brunner’s presentation was entitled Forensic Therapy 101 and focused on educating attorneys and judges on the characteristics and best practices involved in conducting forensic therapy with court involved clients and families. — Mentioned in the last newsletter, we wish to remind people that we have provided online materials for a forensic talk that was very well received on assessment of “Hazardous Parenting Material: Assessing and working with coercive, controlling, and narcissistic styles of behaviors.” Dr. Brunner discussed how behavioral science could be used to assess and contain toxic parenting behaviors. His presentation materials are available here.
